City of Decatur resumes utility collection fees and shut-offs.
On March 23, 2020, the city council passed Emergency Ordinance 2020-3-08, section 4 which authorized the City Manager to impose a moratorium of utility billing collections and shut-offs in an effort to provide economic relief to utility customers affected negatively by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Effective December 21, 2020, the City Council has amended this ordinance and the moratorium has been lifted to resume regular business practices regarding utility payments and shut-offs.
Whether you are experiencing an economic hardship due to COVID-19, reduced income or job loss, the City is offering an extended payment plan. All payment plans must have a signed and notarized agreement in place by February 1, 2021. Otherwise, your account balance, if not paid in full by the due date, is considered past due and your services will be turned off.
To avoid late fees or shut-offs, please call our Utility Billing customer service at (940) 393-0200 from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Monday to Friday (except holidays).
